Pakistan Launches “Qalb” — The World’s Largest Urdu AI Model, Redefining Digital Innovation

LAHORE: Pakistan’s first large-scale AI-based language model related to Urdu, called Qalb, has been officially launched. It is related to artificial intelligence. Often referred to as Pakistan’s Urdu ChatGPT, Qalb marks a significant milestone in the country’s digital and technological evolution.

Under the supervision of Taimoor Hassan, a Pakistani technologist and entrepreneur studying in the US, Qalb is the largest Large Language Model (LLM) made for the Urdu language. As such, Pakistan has recently been placed on the global AI map, thanks to a new milestone.

Qalb has been trained on a massive 1.97 billion Urdu tokens, allowing it to understand complex linguistic structures and generate accurate responses in the Urdu language. The evaluation of this model has taken place on a set of more than seven international AI evaluation benchmarks, where it outperforms all existing models focused on the Urdu language. Furthermore, it happens to be better than these models in real-world performance, understanding capability, and contextual reasoning.

In contrast to the previous language tools, which used cultural nuance, Qalb has been designed to have a deep contextual understanding of Urdu, allowing it to be used effectively in practical applications such as education, customer service, content generation, digital services, and voice-based AI agents. According to experts, local startups, companies, and government initiatives will benefit from this technology as it will enable new AI solutions in Pakistan’s language.

Taimoor Hassan is no stranger to innovation, the creator.  A repeat entrepreneur who has successfully exited 13 startups, a former winner of the Microsoft Cup, and representing Pakistan in several international technology forums. He earned his BS in Computer Science from FAAST University and continues developing advanced AI systems while pursuing further education abroad.
