According to a recent report, the public library Kitab Ghar, which is run by citizens, is closing down. Due to the rise in rent costs beyond the team's ability to bear, management made an emotional post online saying that they need Rs500,000 to shift. The message was straightforward, sincere, and pressing; it resonated with people.

In extraordinary ways, what happened next was exactly that.

The first goal was achieved in just 53 minutes. However, the tale continued from here. Over the subsequent three-day period, contributions continued unwaveringly from every corner of Pakistan and abroad, ultimately amounting to thrice the target.

People from all segments of society chipped in to help save the land for People’s Park. From an amount of Rs500 to above Rs370,000, everyone contributed in some way.

It was not just about the money; it was about belief. We believe in everyone's access to knowledge, secure spaces in the community, and that all initiatives like Kitab Ghar should thrive and survive!

In another encouraging twist, the supporter stepped in to negotiate the terms of the present location’s use, ensuring the library could stay put for the next 11 months. The team will have time to facilitate a smoother transition to a more sustainable and affordable venue without disrupting services through this.

The energy doesn’t stop here. The group behind Kitab Ghar has also teased some community events that are not only about this victory, but about securing the library’s future as well. These activities will contribute to the realization of operational objectives and maintaining the spirit.

The people did not allow Kitab Ghar to become defunct, and this is what makes the narrative unique. It’s an exquisite example of collective action working exactly as it should – a rare act.

As a result, the shelves stay open, the lights stay on, the pages keep turning, thanks to a city that wouldn’t let another one of its cultural assets disappear.
